German wins €50m in Eurojackpot lottery

Cologne – One lucky person in Germany guessed the winning numbers to this week’s Eurojackpot, winning nearly €50 million (R840m, $54.3m), according to lottery officials on Saturday.

It is the second largest lottery take in German history.

The winner’s identity remains unknown, though authorities know the winning ticket was purchased in the western state of North Rhine Westphalia.

“Usually, that means the odds are high that it’s someone from that region,” said Bodo Kemper of Westlotto.

The winning numbers, drawn on Friday night, were 11, 14, 35, 44 and 45, along with two extra numbers – 5 and 6. The exact amount of the award is €49 685 851.50.

The biggest German lottery win on record came in 2014, when a man won €58.7m, also with the Eurojackpot.
