South Africa’s Eskom widens controlled power outages

JOHANNESBURG – South African power utility Eskom [ESCJ.UL] said on Monday it had widened controlled power outages in a bid to prevent demand from exceeding its capacity to keep the lights on.

The cash strapped utility had earlier in the day cut up to 1,000 megawatts of demand in what it calls “Stage 1 load shedding”. It has now increased this to “Stage 2”, which slashes 2,000 MW from the grid.
