{"id":92190,"date":"2017-05-27T15:17:04","date_gmt":"2017-05-27T13:17:04","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.arabtelegraph.com\/?p=92190"},"modified":"2017-05-27T15:17:04","modified_gmt":"2017-05-27T13:17:04","slug":"dozens-dead-in-afghanistan-violence-as-ramadan-begins","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.arabtelegraph.com\/?p=92190","title":{"rendered":"Dozens dead in Afghanistan violence as Ramadan begins"},"content":{"rendered":"<p dir=\"ltr\"><strong>A suspected suicide bomber killed as many as 14 people in Afghanistan on Saturday and fighting between militants and security forces left at least 36 people dead on the first day of Islam&#8217;s holy Month of Ramadan.<span id=\"midArticle_byline\"><\/span><\/strong><\/p>\n<p dir=\"ltr\">In eastern Khost province, a Taliban attacker detonated a car bomb near a football field that is close to a military base, officials said.<\/p>\n<p dir=\"ltr\">At a local hospital, doctors received at least 14 dead bodies and eight wounded people, said Gul Mohammaddin Mangal, head of the public health department in Khost.<\/p>\n<p dir=\"ltr\">&#8220;The bodies are not recognizable and it is hard to say if they are civilians or security forces,&#8221; he said.<\/p>\n<p dir=\"ltr\">Najib Danish, spokesman for the Afghan Interior Ministry, put the death toll at 13 killed and eight wounded, including two children.<\/p>\n<p dir=\"ltr\">Taliban spokesman Zabihullah Mujahid claimed responsibility for the Khost attack, saying it was aimed at members of the Afghan security forces.<\/p>\n<p dir=\"ltr\">A Reuters witness at the scene did not observe any military or police vehicles among those destroyed in the blast.<\/p>\n<p dir=\"ltr\">In the north-western province of Badghis, militants attacked security forces in Qadis district, sparking fighting that killed 22 insurgents, six security forces, and eight civilians, said Zahir Bahand a spokesman for the provincial governor.<\/p>\n<p dir=\"ltr\">The fighting also left 33 militants and 17 civilians wounded, he said.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>A suspected suicide bomber killed as many as 14 people in Afghanistan on Saturday and fighting between militants and security forces left at least 36 people dead on the first day of Islam&#8217;s holy Month of Ramadan.
