{"id":74820,"date":"2016-11-05T22:54:06","date_gmt":"2016-11-05T20:54:06","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.arabtelegraph.com\/?p=74820"},"modified":"2016-11-05T22:54:06","modified_gmt":"2016-11-05T20:54:06","slug":"juncker-warns-european-industry-not-to-cut-own-brexit-deals","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.arabtelegraph.com\/?p=74820","title":{"rendered":"Juncker warns European industry not to cut own Brexit deals"},"content":{"rendered":"<section>\n<div id=\"rcs-articleHeader\" class=\"group wrap\">\n<div class=\"column1 col col-10\">\n<div class=\"article-header\">\n<p dir=\"ltr\"><strong>European Commission President Jean-Claude Juncker warned European firms he would block attempts to cut special deals with Britain ahead of formal Brexit negotiations.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p dir=\"ltr\">In an interview published on Saturday, Juncker said he had heard industrialists&#8217; concerns in a meeting with French President Francois Holland and German Chancellor Angela Merkel but told them not to interfere in the negotiations.<\/p>\n<p dir=\"ltr\">&#8220;I take issue with the attempts in some countries, especially in industrial circles, to reach an agreement with the British for their sector before the other 27 (member states) have spoken,&#8221; Juncker told Belgian newspaper Le Soir.<\/p>\n<p dir=\"ltr\">&#8220;I told them not to interfere in the debate because they will find me on their way: This is a negotiation between 27 and the United Kingdom.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p dir=\"ltr\">Juncker&#8217;s comments appeared to be a warning to European firms after Japan&#8217;s Nissan (<span id=\"symbol_7201.T_0\"><a href=\"http:\/\/www.reuters.com\/finance\/stocks\/overview?symbol=7201.T\">7201.T<\/a><\/span>) agreed to build new models in Britain after reassurances from Prime Minister Theresa May that it would receive support to preserve its competitiveness in the EU market after Brexit.<\/p>\n<p dir=\"ltr\">The head of the EU executive also repeated what has become a mantra of &#8220;no negotiation without notification&#8221; for European leaders &#8211; that the EU will not so much as talk to the British until May formally triggers a two-year countdown to Brexit under Article 50 of the EU treaty.<\/p>\n<p dir=\"ltr\">May has pledge to do so by March next year.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/section>\n<section>\n<div id=\"rcs-articleContent\" class=\"group wrap\"><\/div>\n<\/section>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>European Commission President Jean-Claude Juncker warned European firms he would block attempts to cut special deals with Britain ahead of formal Brexit negotiations.
