Prices of the metal used in power and construction have dropped by more than 7 percent in May.<\/p>\n<p dir=\"ltr\">A higher U.S. currency makes dollar-denominated metals more expensive for non-U.S. firms &#8212; a relationship used by funds to generate buy and sell signals from numerical models.<\/p>\n<p dir=\"ltr\">The dollar&#8217;s latest rise was triggered by Fed Chief Janet Yellen on Friday, whose comments suggested an interest rate rise in the coming months if the economy picks up as expected.<\/p>\n<p dir=\"ltr\">That was echoed on Monday by St. Louis Fed President James Bullard, who said that global markets appear to be well prepared for a summer rate increase.<\/p>\n<p dir=\"ltr\">Julius Baer analyst Carsten Menke said the stronger dollar was reinforcing negative sentiment fuelled by oversupply.<span id=\"midArticle_byline\"><\/span><\/p>\n<p dir=\"ltr\">&#8220;The supply cuts people were expecting last year haven&#8217;t happened.
