Well, any of them will do.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p class=\"ng-scope\" dir=\"ltr\">Whatever supernatural power\u00a0you need, there&#8217;s a precious stone for it in Indonesia, where gemstone\u00a0fever has taken over.<\/p>\n<p class=\"ng-scope\" dir=\"ltr\">Polo, a gemstone polisher in Langsa, a small city in the Indonesian province of Aceh, gave us his version of the stones\u2019 properties. Others might dispute his attribution of powers:\u00a0that amber is actually best for love, and the purple one grants invincibility. The \u201ckecubung\u201d stone, as amethyst is known here, is widely believed to protect you from getting wasted. Of course, if you&#8217;re already invincible, a couple beers should do no harm.<\/p>\n<p class=\"ng-scope\" dir=\"ltr\">Thanks to such beliefs in their powers, gemstones are everywhere in Indonesia. Mostly on men\u2019s fingers, but women are slowly getting contaminated by the frenzy. People often wear more than one ring, and they\u2019re sometimes so big it makes you wonder how people manage to lift their hands.<\/p>\n<p class=\"ng-scope\" dir=\"ltr\">Merchants say <a href=\"http:\/\/www.dpa-international.com\/news\/asia\/back-to-the-stone-age-gemstone-craze-sweeps-indonesia-a-45270066.html\">sales have tripled<\/a> in the past two years, and prices have obviously followed. While you\u2019ll still find cheap ones \u2014 costing just\u00a0a few dollars \u2014 some precious stones now sell for over $20,000.<\/p>\n<p class=\"ng-scope\" dir=\"ltr\">The recent <a href=\"http:\/\/blogs.wsj.com\/indonesiarealtime\/2015\/05\/05\/indonesian-gemstones-dealers-mine-a-growing-market\/\" target=\"_blank\">craze<\/a> is believed to have started after former president Susilo Bambang Yudhoyono gave a piece of jewelry to Barack Obama\u00a0when he visited in 2010. The US president reportedly received a \u00a0green \u201cbacan\u201d gemstone ring, believed to have various healing powers.<\/p>\n<p class=\"ng-scope\" dir=\"ltr\">Polo gets his from Aceh, but they\u2019re mined in various parts of the country. And with so many people wanting them, the authorities are starting to wonder whether they should start controlling prices, and look into environmental and security hazards. <a href=\"http:\/\/www.thejakartapost.com\/news\/2015\/04\/25\/gemstone-craze-opens-questions-control.html#sthash.o9gkh42y.dpuf\">Earlier this year in Sumatra<\/a>, three gemstone diggers died of asphyxiation in an illegal mine.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>LANGSA, Indonesia \u2014 Looking for a wife?
