Some institutional investors came back\r\ninto the markets to buy selected stocks with valuations that\r\nthey now saw as reasonable.\r\n    But with global oil prices and equities still unstable and\r\nthe economic outlook for China unclear, fund managers do not\r\nhave any confidence that Gulf bourses have bottomed for the\r\nlonger term.\r\n   So the Saudi stock index, which had surged 7.4\r\npercent on Tuesday, fell back 2.1 percent on Wednesday. Trading\r\nvolume, which had jumped on Tuesday to its highest level since\r\nMay 2014, shrank by more than a third.\r\n    Petrochemical producer Saudi Basic Industries,\r\nwhich had jumped its 10 percent daily limit on Tuesday, pulled\r\nback 4.1 percent. Alinma Bank, which had also gained\r\n10 percent, slipped 3.7 percent.\r\n    Selling was not indiscriminate, however, and there was\r\ncontinued bargain-hunting in some second- or third-tier stocks,\r\nsuch as healthcare provider Bupa Arabia, up 2.8\r\npercent.\r\n    Dubai's stock index, which had jumped 4.6 percent\r\non Tuesday, fell back 1.4 percent. Real estate shares that had\r\nsurged on Tuesday saw selling, with Emaar Properties \r\ndown 1.7 percent and DAMAC Properties off 4.4\r\npercent.\r\n    Abu Dhabi edged down 0.1 percent as Aldar Properties\r\n, which had added 7.0 percent on Tuesday, pulled back\r\n5.3 percent. However, telecommunications blue chip Etisalat\r\n gained 0.8 percent.\r\n    Qatar's market bucked the trend and continued to\r\nrise, gaining 0.5 percent. Telecommunications firm Ooredoo\r\n, widely seen as a defensive stock with an attactive\r\ndividend yield, was a major reason for the index's rise, gaining\r\n3.3 percent.\r\n    Egypt's index .EGX30, which had risen 2.8 percent on\r\nTuesday, climbed a further 0.5 percent as Qalaa Holdings\r\n, one of the country's largest investment firms, rose\r\n4.7 percent.
