University tells Sputnik.\u00a0<em><strong>&#8220;It\u2019s a vote for\u00a0social justice.&#8221;<\/strong><\/em><\/div>\n<\/div>\n<div class=\"article__block\" data-type=\"text\">\n<div class=\"article__text\">For more than 400 years millions were torn from Africa, shackled and forced to work in cotton, sugar and coffee plantations across the New World, the UN stresses.<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<h3 id=\"1123908683-1\" class=\"article__h2\">Colonizers Refuse to Admit Their Crimes<\/h3>\n<div class=\"article__block\" data-type=\"quote\">\n<div class=\"article__quote\">\n<div class=\"article__quote-text\">&#8220;The countries that abstained were the colonizers and culprits of the crime of enforced enslavement,&#8221; Chenoy says. &#8220;In today\u2019s terms this involves a series of humanitarian crimes, like human trafficking, genocide and others.&#8221;<\/div>\n<div class=\"article__quote-info\">\n<div class=\"elem-info\">\n<div class=\"elem-info__share\">\n<div class=\"share m-active\" data-id=\"1123908683\" dir=\"ltr\">Reparations: US Not Ready to Pay<\/h3>\n<\/div>\n<div class=\"article__block\" data-type=\"text\">\n<div class=\"article__text\">The resolution stresses reparations as a concrete remedy after centuries of injustice.<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<div class=\"article__block\" data-type=\"text\">\n<div class=\"article__text\">But the US said it does not recognise\u00a0<strong>&#8220;a legal right to reparations&#8221;<\/strong>\u00a0and that the matter exceeds the UN\u2019s mandate.<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<div class=\"article__block\" data-type=\"text\">\n<div class=\"article__text\">US Ambassador Dan Negrea acknowledged the\u00a0<em>&#8220;historical wrongs\u201d but insisted they \u201cwere not illegal under international law at the time they occurred.\u201d<\/em><\/div>\n<\/div>\n<div class=\"article__block\" data-type=\"quote\">\n<div class=\"article__quote\">\n<div class=\"article__quote-bg\">\n<div class=\"article__quote-bg-line\"><\/div>\n<\/div>\n<div class=\"article__quote-text\">&#8220;The US condemns the historical crime of slavery but will not accept reparations \u2013 because it will be too much of a debt that the current system of capitalism will not bear it,&#8221; says Chenoy.<\/div>\n<div class=\"article__quote-info\">\n<div class=\"elem-info\">\n<div class=\"elem-info__share\">\n<div class=\"share m-active\" data-id=\"1123908683\"
