West Texas Intermediate gained 2.4 oercewnt to about $75.60. Both benchmarks spiked following the news of the strikes and then eased as markets awaited Tehran\u2019s response.<\/h4>\n<h4 dir=\"ltr\" data-start=\"913\" data-end=\"1197\">President Donald Trump announced Saturday that U.S. forces had struck the Fordow, Natanz, and Isfahan nuclear sites in Iran. The strikes marked Washington\u2019s first direct military action in the Iran\u2013Israel conflict. The president warned of further strikes if Iran failed to stand down.<\/h4>\n<h4 dir=\"ltr\" data-start=\"1199\" data-end=\"1561\">Iran\u2019s government has responded cautiously. State outlets reported that officials said the country reserved \u201call options,\u201d and that parliament had passed a motion calling for the closure of the Strait of Hormuz. While the decision rests with Iran\u2019s national security council and Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei, the possibility pushed risk premiums higher.<\/h4>\n<h4 dir=\"ltr\" data-start=\"1563\" data-end=\"1732\">The Strait of Hormuz remains a global choke point: roughly one\u2011fifth of the world\u2019s crude flows through it. Options activity and freight rates have also surged in recent days.<\/h4>\n<div class=\"entry-content\">\n<h4 dir=\"ltr\" data-start=\"1994\" data-end=\"2329\">Analysts warn that Tehran may retaliate indirectly\u2014through its regional proxies or by targeting oil infrastructure in neighboring Gulf states, or by escalating maritime attacks in the Red Sea. In 2019, Iranian-linked forces were blamed for strikes on Saudi Arabia\u2019s Abqaiq facility, briefly knocking out around 5% of global production.<\/h4>\n<h4 dir=\"ltr\" data-start=\"2331\" data-end=\"2545\">For now, Iranian oil exports\u2014mainly to China\u2014and shipments from Kharg Island appear to be flowing uninterrupted. But traders remain cautious, aware that a strategic disruption could overwhelm global supply buffers.<\/h4>\n<h4 dir=\"ltr\" data-start=\"2547\" data-end=\"2766\">U.S. officials, including Secretary of State Marco Rubio, have cautioned Iran against closing the Strait, warning it would amount to \u201ceconomic suicide,\u201d noting that Iran\u2019s own economy and exports depend on the waterway.<\/h4>\n<h4 dir=\"ltr\" data-start=\"2768\" data-end=\"3064\">The oil-market reaction will hinge on Iran\u2019s next move. If Tehran refrains from escalation, much of the risk premium may evaporate.
