What Israel Plans to Do in 2025"},"content":{"rendered":"<div class=\"article__header\">\n<div class=\"article__announce-text\" dir=\"ltr\">Having invaded the Gaza Strip and Lebanon over the past year, Israel has also moved to seize parts of Syria following the ouster of Bashar Assad.<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<div class=\"article__body\" dir=\"ltr\">\n<div class=\"article__block\" data-type=\"text\">\n<div class=\"article__text\">Opposing Iran and its nuclear program is going to be at the top of Israel\u2019s agenda this year, Dr. Hassan Nafaa, professor of political science at Cairo University, told Sputnik.<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<div class=\"article__block\" data-type=\"quote\">\n<div class=\"article__quote\">\n<div class=\"article__quote-text\">\n<p>\u201cThe main challenge in 2025 is to prevent Iran at all costs from producing an atomic bomb,\u201d he claims.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<div class=\"article__block\" data-type=\"text\">\n<div class=\"article__text\">Though Israel has been accusing Iran of trying to develop nuclear weapons for years, any tangible evidence to substantiate these claims is yet to be presented. Tehran repeatedly denies these allegations, pointing out that the Iranian nuclear program is strictly peaceful.<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<div class=\"article__block\" data-type=\"text\">\n<div class=\"article__text\">Next on Tel Aviv\u2019s agenda this year will be securing the release of the hostages taken by Hamas during the October 7, 2023, raid, or recovering their bodies if these people have already met their end.<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<div class=\"article__block\" data-type=\"text\">\n<div class=\"article__text\">Dr. Nafaa also predicts that Israel will continue waging its campaign in Lebanon, ostensibly in a bid to drive Hezbollah from the southern parts of the country.<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<div class=\"article__block\" data-type=\"text\">\n<div class=\"article__text\">Finally, Israel is likely going to try to \u201cbuild a broad coalition with the Gulf states\u201d such as Saudi Arabia and to create a \u201cnew Middle East through and with the support of Trump and the United States,\u201d the scholar suggests.<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<div class=\"article__block\" data-type=\"article\" data-article=\"main-photo\">\n<div class=\"article__article m-image\"><\/div>\n<\/div>\n<div class=\"article__block\" data-type=\"text\">\n<div class=\"article__text\">In October 2023 Israel invaded the Gaza Strip to punish Hamas for the October 7 attacks and free Israeli hostages seized during those raids.<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<div class=\"article__block\" data-type=\"text\">\n<div class=\"article__text\">A year later, in October 2024, Israel invaded Lebanon after months of cross-border exchanges with Hezbollah that supports the Gazan resistance.<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<div class=\"article__block\" data-type=\"text\">\n<div class=\"article__text\">In December 2024, Tel Aviv capitalized on the collapse of Bashar Assad\u2019s government in Syria and proceeded to capture Syrian territories adjacent to the Golan Heights, a region of Syria illegally occupied by Israel.<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<div class=\"article__footer\" dir=\"ltr\">\n<div class=\"article__share\">\n<div class=\"article__sharebar\" data-nosnippet=\"\"><\/div>\n<\/div>\n<ul class=\"tags m-noButton m-mb20\">\n<li class=\"tag  m-supertag\" data-sid=\"opinion--analysis\" data-type=\"supertag\"><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/div>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Having invaded the Gaza Strip and Lebanon over the past year, Israel has also moved to seize parts of Syria following the ouster of Bashar Assad.
