The mosquitoes act as \u2018flying syringes\u2019 to deliver malaria vaccines \u2013 or potentially other substances.\u00a0<\/strong>But concerns have been raised that recipients could be unaware of the process and be vaccinated without their consent.<\/div>\n

How It All Began<\/h5>\n<\/div>\n

In 2008, Gates pledged $168 million to develop a next-gen malaria vaccine. Jichi Medical University in Japan\u00a0received funding\u00a0to genetically modify mosquitoes that can pass a malaria vaccine protein into a host.<\/div>\n

<\/div>\n

In 2016, Gates\u00a0announced\u00a0a joint $3.7-billion initiative with the British government to combat malaria.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n

By 2018, Gates-funded Oxitec was developing genetically-modified male mosquitoes whose offspring with wild females would die before adulthood.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n

In both cases, scientists raised concerns over the lack of comprehensive studies of environmental, health and ethical risks.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n

Nazi Germany reportedly developed malaria-carrying mosquitoes as bio-weapons at Dachau.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n

The Pentagon is said to have conducted similar studies in overseas bio-labs, including in Ukraine, according to\u00a0assassinated\u00a0Russian Lieutenant General\u00a0Igor Kirillov.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n

Kirillov revealed that\u00a0US biolabs\u00a0in\u00a0Ukraine\u00a0studied viruses transmitted by mosquitoes, including dengue fever.
