South Korea\u2019s acquisition of American F-35 stealth fighter jets will force North Korea to develop and test \u201cspecial armaments\u201d to destroy the new weapons, North Korea\u2019s state media said on Thursday, citing a government researcher.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
South Korean authorities are \u201cimpudent and pitiful\u201d for \u201ctalking loudly about reconciliation and cooperation between the north and the south\u201d while buying more weapons from the United States, an unnamed policy research director at the Institute for American Studies of North Korea\u2019s Ministry of Foreign Affairs said in a statement carried by state news agency KCNA.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
\u201cThere is no room for doubt that the delivery of \u2018F-35A\u2019, which is also called an \u2018invisible lethal weapon\u2019, is aimed at securing military supremacy over the neighboring countries in the region and especially opening a \u2018gate\u2019 to invading the north in time of emergency on the Korean peninsula,\u201d the statement said. <\/p>\n\n\n\n
\u201cWe, on our part, have no other choice but to develop and test the special armaments to completely destroy the lethal weapons reinforced in south Korea.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n
South Korea took delivery of its first two F-35 jets in March, with more slated to arrive this year. It has agreed to buy a total of 40 of the advanced aircraft, the last to be delivered by 2021.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
North Korea\u2019s latest criticism of South Korea\u2019s military acquisition as an \u201cextremely dangerous action which will trigger our reaction\u201d comes as inter-Korean relations have stalled.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
South Korean leader Moon Jae-in was left on the sidelines of a meeting between North Korean leader Kim Jong Un and U.S. President Donald Trump at the inter-Korean border in June, and there have been few signs that relations have improved.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
