{"id":142935,"date":"2019-04-24T15:16:38","date_gmt":"2019-04-24T13:16:38","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.arabtelegraph.com\/?p=142935"},"modified":"2019-04-24T15:16:38","modified_gmt":"2019-04-24T13:16:38","slug":"aramcos-bond-is-only-the-beginning-saudi-energy-minister-says","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.arabtelegraph.com\/?p=142935","title":{"rendered":"Aramco&#8217;s bond is &#8216;only the beginning&#8217;, Saudi energy minister says"},"content":{"rendered":"<figure id=\"attachment_142936\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-142936\" style=\"width: 500px\" class=\"wp-caption aligncenter\"><a href=\"https:\/\/www.arabtelegraph.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/04\/download-111.jpg\"><img fetchpriority=\"high\" decoding=\"async\" class=\" wp-image-142936\" src=\"https:\/\/www.arabtelegraph.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/04\/download-111-300x245.jpg\" alt=\"Saudi Energy Minister Khalid al-Falih\" width=\"500\" height=\"408\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.arabtelegraph.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/04\/download-111-300x245.jpg 300w, https:\/\/www.arabtelegraph.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/04\/download-111.jpg 640w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 500px) 100vw, 500px\" \/><\/a><figcaption id=\"caption-attachment-142936\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">Saudi Energy Minister Khalid al-Falih<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p dir=\"ltr\"><strong>Saudi Aramco, the world\u2019s biggest oil producer, will remain active in the debt markets after its debut $12 billion bond earlier this month, which was \u201conly the beginning\u201d, Saudi Energy Minister Khalid al-Falih said on Wednesday.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p dir=\"ltr\">Falih, speaking at a financial conference in Riyadh, also said Aramco would access the equity markets earlier than expected after the company gained exposure among investors through the bond sale.<\/p>\n<p dir=\"ltr\">Many saw the debt deal as a relationship-building exercise with international investors ahead of Aramco\u2019s planned initial public offering, aimed at raising money for the government as Saudi Arabia looks to cut its budget deficit and diversify its economy.<\/p>\n<p dir=\"ltr\">Saudi officials have said the new planned listing date is 2021, but Falih told the conference on Wednesday that the share sale \u201ccould slip or come forward a little bit\u201d.<\/p>\n<p dir=\"ltr\">Aramco received more than $100 billion in orders by April 9 for its debut bond &#8211; even after its prospectus said the kingdom would not guarantee Aramco\u2019s notes &#8211; but chose to sell only $12 billion.<\/p>\n<p dir=\"ltr\">The bond came on the heels of Aramco\u2019s planned $69.1 billion acquisition of a 70 percent stake in petrochemicals firm Saudi Basic Industries Corp (SABIC) from the Saudi sovereign wealth fund.<\/p>\n<p dir=\"ltr\">JPMorgan, Morgan Stanley, HSBC, Citi, Goldman Sachs and National Commercial Bank were the bonds\u2019 bookrunners.<\/p>\n<p dir=\"ltr\">JPMorgan and Morgan Stanley, along with other banks, worked on the planned stock market listing of Aramco before the move was postponed last year.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Saudi Aramco, the world\u2019s biggest oil producer, will remain active in the debt markets after its debut $12 billion bond earlier this month, which was \u201conly the beginning\u201d, Saudi Energy Minister Khalid al-Falih said on Wednesday.
