{"id":123874,"date":"2018-05-09T20:54:07","date_gmt":"2018-05-09T18:54:07","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.arabtelegraph.com\/?p=123874"},"modified":"2018-05-09T20:54:07","modified_gmt":"2018-05-09T18:54:07","slug":"top-4-possible-scenarios-to-come-as-us-pulls-out-from-iran-nuke-deal","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.arabtelegraph.com\/?p=123874","title":{"rendered":"Top 4 Possible Scenarios to Come as US Pulls Out From Iran Nuke Deal"},"content":{"rendered":"<div class=\"b-article__lead\">\n<p dir=\"ltr\"><strong>With US President Donald Trump announcing the decision to withdraw from the Iran nuclear deal, people around the world are left wondering about what\u2019s going to happen next, and how the parties involved in the making of this agreement might attempt to salvage the situation.<\/strong><\/p>\n<\/div>\n<div class=\"b-article__text\" dir=\"ltr\">\n<p><strong>Business as\u00a0Usual<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>As the United States walks away, the rest of\u00a0the P5+1 countries and Iran decide to\u00a0preserve the agreement.Iranian President Hassan Rouhani said on\u00a0Tuesday that Tehran was not going to\u00a0withdraw from\u00a0the JCPOA, while Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov said that Russia would also abide by\u00a0the agreement.<\/p>\n<p>While it may allow Iran to\u00a0continue trading with\u00a0Russia, China and Europe without\u00a0any restrictions, the US may attempt to\u00a0impose sanctions against\u00a0Tehran\u2019s trading partners in\u00a0order to\u00a0sway their opinion and force them to\u00a0withdraw from\u00a0the agreement as\u00a0well.<\/p>\n<p><strong>New Deal, Same as\u00a0the Old Deal (Minus US)<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>The EU, Russia and China may attempt to\u00a0create a separate agreement with\u00a0Iran on\u00a0the latter\u2019s nuclear program.<\/p>\n<p>However, such an initiative would likely be vulnerable to\u00a0economic pressure from\u00a0the United States, not to\u00a0mention that the latter is a permanent member of\u00a0the UN Security Council and may block any UNSC resolutions on\u00a0the issue.<\/p>\n<p>US National Security Adviser John Bolton has already expressed hope that the European Union would return the anti-Iran sanctions after\u00a0the United States does the same.<\/p>\n<p><strong>No Russia, No Problem?<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Alternatively, the United States and its allies may, in\u00a0theory, attempt to\u00a0forge a new agreement with\u00a0Iran in\u00a0a bid to\u00a0find a sustainable solution for\u00a0the country\u2019s nuclear program without\u00a0involving countries that don\u2019t see eye to\u00a0eye with\u00a0Washington on\u00a0this matter, like\u00a0Russia and China.<\/p>\n<p>However, UK Foreign Secretary Boris Johnson warned that any such agreement \u201cmust necessarily include Iran, China and Russia, as\u00a0well as\u00a0states in\u00a0the region.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Also, former US Secretary of\u00a0State Hillary Clinton pointed out\u00a0that by\u00a0pulling out\u00a0of the JCPOA, Donald Trump dealt a severe blow to\u00a0the United States\u2019 credibility, and that it would be very difficult to\u00a0get Iran to\u00a0the negotiating table again.<\/p>\n<p><strong>All Bets Are Off<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>The US withdrawal from\u00a0the deal and inevitable implementation of\u00a0new sanctions will prompt Iran to\u00a0declare the agreement breached and withdraw from\u00a0it as\u00a0well.<\/p>\n<p>This move will effectively remove any restrictions imposed on\u00a0the Iranian nuclear program and may allow Tehran to\u00a0freely attempt to\u00a0develop nuclear weapons.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>With US President Donald Trump announcing the decision to withdraw from the Iran nuclear deal, people around the world are left wondering about what\u2019s going to happen next, and how the parties involved in the making of this agreement might attempt to salvage the situation.
