This particular statement pushed the dollar index lower and we saw a higher move in\u00a0the gold price,&#8221; said ThinkMarkets analyst Naeem Aslam, as\u00a0cited by\u00a0the Morning Star.<\/p>\n<p dir=\"ltr\">CMC Markets UK analyst David Madden said there were also selloffs.<\/p>\n<p dir=\"ltr\">&#8220;Some major European indices hit their highest levels since\u00a0February yesterday and investors are now locking in\u00a0some profits,&#8221; he said in\u00a0a note to\u00a0clients, adding that &#8220;Traders took their cues from\u00a0Asia overnight and decided to\u00a0exit the equity markets, partially driven by\u00a0higher yields on\u00a0government bonds.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p dir=\"ltr\"><strong>The European Commission cautioned on\u00a0Thursday in\u00a0its latest economic forecast that global trade tensions with\u00a0the US present an &#8220;unambiguously negative risk<\/strong><\/p>\n<p dir=\"ltr\">.&#8221;Concerns about\u00a0trade wars have resurfaced as\u00a0negotiators from\u00a0the US and China meet on\u00a0Thursday and Friday in\u00a0Beijing in\u00a0the wake of\u00a0US President Donald Trump&#8217;s recently introduced tariffs targeting China, which were met with\u00a0retaliatory moves from\u00a0the Asian country and have sent stock markets across\u00a0the globe still lower.<\/p>\n<p dir=\"ltr\">Both sides have lowered expectations for\u00a0the gathering, with\u00a0Chinese Foreign Ministry spokesperson Hua Chunying telling reporters it is &#8220;not realistic to\u00a0resolve all issues through\u00a0only one round\u00a0of negotiations&#8221;.<\/p>\n<p class=\"marker-quote1\" dir=\"ltr\">&#8220;When you think about\u00a0the things that have been weighing on\u00a0the market\u2026 I think the one that is really weighing the most heavily is trade and that&#8217;s why the market tends to\u00a0swing the most violently on\u00a0every new piece of\u00a0news,&#8221; Michael Jones, chairman of\u00a0RiverFront Investment Group, told Bloomberg TV earlier this week.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Global stock markets fell back on Thursday amid the threat of a trade war between the US and China, the world\u2019s two biggest economies.
