{"id":121861,"date":"2018-04-15T21:49:47","date_gmt":"2018-04-15T19:49:47","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.arabtelegraph.com\/?p=121861"},"modified":"2018-04-15T21:49:47","modified_gmt":"2018-04-15T19:49:47","slug":"us-strike-in-syria-reportedly-hits-cancer-medicine-research-lab","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.arabtelegraph.com\/?p=121861","title":{"rendered":"US Strike in Syria Reportedly Hits Cancer Medicine Research Lab"},"content":{"rendered":"<div class=\"b-article__lead\">\n<p dir=\"ltr\"><strong>The US-led missile strike against Syria, allegedly aimed at suspected chemical weapon sites, has reportedly resulted in the destruction of a pharmaceutical facility used to produce cancer drugs.<\/strong><\/p>\n<\/div>\n<div class=\"b-article__text\" dir=\"ltr\">\n<p>The Institution for\u00a0the Development of\u00a0Pharmaceutical and Chemical Industries in\u00a0Barzeh, which was one of\u00a0the targets of\u00a0the recent US-led attack against\u00a0Syria, was used to\u00a0produce medical drugs which are currently in\u00a0short supply in\u00a0the country due to\u00a0sanctions imposed by\u00a0the West, Press TV reports.<\/p>\n<p class=\"marker-quote1\" dir=\"ltr\">&#8220;Since the Syria crisis broke out, the country has been short of\u00a0all kinds of\u00a0medicines due to\u00a0the sanctions from\u00a0Western countries. Foreign companies stopped exporting high-quality medicines to\u00a0Syria, especially anti-cancer medicines. So we have been conducting researches\u00a0 on\u00a0anti-cancer medicines here, and three cancer drugs have been developed,&#8221; the facility head said.<\/p>\n<p><iframe title=\"Syria: Center for Scientific Research in Barzeh After Airstrikes\" width=\"500\" height=\"281\" src=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/GcA0cIx8WPs?feature=oembed\" frameborder=\"0\" allow=\"accelerometer; autoplay; clipboard-write; encrypted-media; gyroscope; picture-in-picture; web-share\" referrerpolicy=\"strict-origin-when-cross-origin\" allowfullscreen><\/iframe><\/p>\n<\/div>\n<p class=\"marker-quote1\" dir=\"ltr\">He also remarked that neither he nor his colleagues would\u2019ve been able to\u00a0remain at\u00a0the facility like\u00a0they do now if it contained any chemical weapons like\u00a0the US authorities claimed.<\/p>\n<p class=\"marker-quote1\" dir=\"ltr\">&#8220;If there were chemical weapons in\u00a0the building, we would not be here. My colleagues and I came here at\u00a005:00 this morning.
