Numerous terror plots \u2013 many of which have targeted London\u2019s public transport infrastructure \u2013 have been thwarted throughout the country in recent years.<\/strong><\/p>\n<\/div>\n<div class=\"b-article__text\" dir=\"ltr\">\n<p>British Security Minister Ben Wallace announced today that London\u2019s transport network is purging employees who have been identified as \u201cpotential terrorists,\u201d as\u00a0part of\u00a0their latest initiative to\u00a0bolster the capital\u2019s security.<\/p>\n<p>The minister said that numerous extremists who \u201cwould pose a risk to\u00a0London and its transport network\u201d had already been purged, without\u00a0providing further details.<\/p>\n<p>He went on\u00a0to say that employees in\u00a0other \u201csensitive\u201d areas and sectors were also set to\u00a0be screened and potentially fired if they are considered to\u00a0be a security risk. One of\u00a0the perpetrators of\u00a0last year\u2019s London Bridge terror attack had previously worked for\u00a0London Underground.<\/p>\n<p class=\"marker-quote1\">\u201cIt\u2019s reducing the insider threat. There are definitely people who have worked in\u00a0sensitive areas that we have now removed who would pose a risk to\u00a0London and its networks of\u00a0transport.\u00a0We\u2019ve got to\u00a0protect as\u00a0well as\u00a0pursue. There are more things we can do around\u00a0where these people work,\u201d UK Security Minister Ben Wallace told the Evening Standard newspaper on\u00a0April 6.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe have an acute number of\u00a0people in\u00a0this country who are attracted to\u00a0extremism\u00a0or violent extremism. You can\u2019t arrest your way out\u00a0of that so you have to\u00a0develop a way that you can early intervene with\u00a0some people. Disruption is really important.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Minister Wallace also revealed that terror groups, such as\u00a0Daesh and al-Qaeda, are targeting vulnerable people with\u00a0autism, to\u00a0lure them into\u00a0carrying out\u00a0terror attacks.<\/p>\n<p>When asked about\u00a0how UK citizens who have been captured by\u00a0anti-Daesh forces in\u00a0Iraq and Syria will be tried and dealt with, he said his government are working with\u00a0its allies to\u00a0develop a strategy.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe are working with\u00a0our allies, with\u00a0America, with\u00a0Iraq, our police here\u2026 they are in\u00a0the custody of\u00a0the Kurdish militias so there is more to\u00a0run on\u00a0that,\u201d the minister said, referring to\u00a0the two former Daesh \u201cBeatles\u201d who are being held by\u00a0Kurdish forces.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>With a number of Britons returning home from Syria and Iraq after joining the *Daesh terror group, UK police and counter-terrorism forces are on high alert.
