Airline Puts 80-Year-Old Woman on Wrong Flight, Treats Her Like \u2018Lost Luggage\u2019<\/h1>\n

This week, a partially blind, 80-year-old passenger who does not speak English was boarded on the wrong United Airlines flight and sent to Colorado instead of North Carolina, despite the fact that her family had previously requested special assistance from the airline.<\/strong><\/p>\n<\/div>\n

Maria Larios was flying from\u00a0El Salvador to\u00a0Raleigh to\u00a0be with\u00a0her daughter, who was to\u00a0undergo brain surgery.<\/p>\n

The first leg of\u00a0Larios’ trip went smoothly and she landed in\u00a0Houston, Texas, where she was supposed to\u00a0transfer to\u00a0her connecting flight to\u00a0Raleigh. But somehow, she was given an incorrect boarding pass and ended up\u00a0on a flight to\u00a0Denver, Colorado, many hundreds of\u00a0miles away from\u00a0her intended destination, Tuesday evening.<\/p>\n

“She cannot read or write even in\u00a0her own language. She can’t speak English at\u00a0all. So when you hand her a boarding pass, she’s trusting that it’s the right boarding pass,” the woman’s daughter, Mikki Paradis, told local television station WRAL.<\/p>\n

“They [United Airlines] were like, ‘Oh yeah. We made a mistake, and she was given the wrong boarding pass and so she’s in\u00a0Denver. But it’s not a big deal. We’ve already got her on\u00a0a flight to\u00a0Raleigh, and we gave her a meal voucher,'” she added.<\/p>\n

Paradis was frustrated by\u00a0the airline’s casual response to\u00a0the incident.”You lost a person, and the whole time they were treating me like\u00a0they lost my luggage,” Paradis said.<\/p>\n

United apologized for\u00a0its mistake and put Larios on\u00a0a flight to\u00a0Raleigh that arrived around\u00a0midnight on\u00a0the same day.”We deeply apologize to\u00a0Ms. Larios and to\u00a0her family for\u00a0this experience,” United Airlines said in\u00a0a statement this week.<\/p>\n

“When she arrived in\u00a0Denver, she was placed on\u00a0the next flight to\u00a0Raleigh and we issued a refund and a travel certificate. Our customer care team is in\u00a0contact with\u00a0her family to\u00a0ensure we make this right. We are also investigating this incident internally to\u00a0better understand what happened so that we can prevent this from\u00a0happening again.”<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n
