{"id":115315,"date":"2018-01-21T14:13:18","date_gmt":"2018-01-21T12:13:18","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.arabtelegraph.com\/?p=115315"},"modified":"2018-01-21T14:13:18","modified_gmt":"2018-01-21T12:13:18","slug":"jordans-king-east-jerusalem-must-be-capital-of-palestine","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.arabtelegraph.com\/?p=115315","title":{"rendered":"Jordan&#8217;s King: East Jerusalem Must Be Capital of Palestine"},"content":{"rendered":"<div class=\"b-article__lead\">\n<p dir=\"ltr\"><strong>Jordan King Abdullah II stated that the Israeli-Palestinian conflict could be only solved by two-state decision, the Reuters news agency reported.<\/strong><\/p>\n<\/div>\n<div class=\"b-article__text\" dir=\"ltr\">\n<p>According to\u00a0the agency, King Abdullah has held talks with\u00a0the US Vice President Mike Pence in\u00a0the capital city of\u00a0Amman, reteirating the Jordan position on\u00a0the Israeli-Palestinian conflict by\u00a0saying that East Jerusalem should be the capital of\u00a0a future Palestinian state.<\/p>\n<p>The king went on\u00a0by saying that the Israeli-Palestinian conflict could be only solved by\u00a0two-state decision and urging Pence to\u00a0&#8220;rebuild trust and confidence&#8221;, following\u00a0US President Donald Trump&#8217;s controvercial decision to\u00a0recognize Jerusalem as\u00a0Israeli capital, which sparked mass criticism around\u00a0the world, especially in\u00a0Muslim-dominated countries.<\/p>\n<p>As the king noted, the US resolution wasn&#8217;t a part of\u00a0a &#8220;comprehensive settlement&#8221; of\u00a0the conflict, saying that Washington has not a &#8220;major challenge to\u00a0overcome&#8221;.<\/p>\n<p>Pence, in\u00a0his turn, responded to\u00a0his words by\u00a0saying that the US was\u00a0&#8220;committed to\u00a0restarting the peace process&#8221;.<\/p>\n<p><strong>The conversation took place amid\u00a0the Israeli efforts to\u00a0restore the diplomatic relations with\u00a0Jordan,\u00a0teetering after\u00a0the killing of\u00a0three Jordanians by\u00a0Israeli guards and to\u00a0reopen its embassy in\u00a0Amman. \u200bJordan is one of\u00a0two\u00a0Arab countries, along\u00a0with Egypt, that have diplomatic relations with\u00a0Israel.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong>Meanwhile, as\u00a0the US Department of\u00a0State has decribed the Washington&#8217;s plans concerning the issue on\u00a0January 19, the decision on\u00a0an interim facility to\u00a0move the country&#8217;s embassy to\u00a0Jerusalem hadn&#8217;t been yet taken, what echoes\u00a0Rex Tillerson&#8217;s explanations in\u00a0mid-December that the embassy was likely to\u00a0be relocated no earlier than\u00a02020, or even later.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<\/div>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Jordan King Abdullah II stated that the Israeli-Palestinian conflict could be only solved by two-state decision, the Reuters news agency reported.
