The UAE government will &#8220;ask for\u00a0the intervention of\u00a0the council to\u00a0stop Qatar from\u00a0repeating the act,&#8221; the aviation authority chief said.<\/p>\n<p>The Qatari government rejected the accusation as &#8220;completely false.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p class=\"marker-quote1\">&#8220;The State of\u00a0Qatar announces that the claims of\u00a0Qatari fighter planes intercepting a UAE civil aviation aircraft is completely false,&#8221; the Qatari Foreign Ministry said via\u00a0Twitter on\u00a0Monday, shortly after\u00a0a UAE state-run news agency reported the interception earlier in\u00a0the day.<\/p>\n<p>A spokesman for\u00a0FlightRadar24, an aircraft-tracking website, told the Associated Press &#8220;there appears to\u00a0be no deviation from\u00a0standard routing and approach patterns.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>A spokesman for\u00a0the US Air Force Central Command&#8217;s al-Udeid Air Base in\u00a0Qatar, meanwhile, said it did not receive any reports of\u00a0incidents involving commercial aircraft in\u00a0the region, but\u00a0that the US does not actively monitor the operations of\u00a0Qatar&#8217;s air force.<br \/>\nThe governments of\u00a0Qatar and Saudi Arabia, the UAE, Bahrain and Egypt have been engulfed in\u00a0a diplomatic crisis since\u00a0last June and it shows few signs of\u00a0abating.<\/p>\n<div class=\"b-inject m-inject-min\">\n<div class=\"b-inject__copy\">Since neither the Qatari nor Saudi, Egyptian, Emirati or Bahraini sides are &#8220;interested in\u00a0a compromise,&#8221; the alleged airline interception is concerning, Hani Sabra, founder of\u00a0Alef Advisory in\u00a0New York, told Bloomberg.<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<p>&#8220;The hardline positions of\u00a0the parties means the chance of\u00a0accidents is always present,&#8221; Sabra noted.<\/p>\n<p>Meanwhile, Qatari Sheikh Abdullah bin Ali al-Thani, a member of\u00a0the royal family, said in\u00a0a video statement over\u00a0the weekend he was being held &#8220;prisoner&#8221; in\u00a0the UAE after\u00a0being invited as\u00a0a guest. But a UAE foreign ministry official denied the charge. A source in\u00a0the UAE Foreign Ministry told the country&#8217;s official WAM news agency that al-Thani &#8220;expressed his desire to\u00a0leave the UAE and was provided with\u00a0all help needed to\u00a0facilitate his departure from\u00a0the UAE.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p class=\"marker-quote1\"><strong>In light of\u00a0this development, the Qatari communications office announced late Monday that the alleged plane interception was a ploy to &#8220;draw attention from\u00a0other incidents that have caused media crises&#8221; for\u00a0Abu Dhabi in\u00a0recent days<\/strong>.<\/p>\n<div class=\"b-inject m-inject-min\">\n<div class=\"b-inject__copy\">The coalition led by\u00a0Riyadh has severed diplomatic, trade and transportation links with\u00a0Qatar, which has since\u00a0sought closer ties with\u00a0Iran. Shortly after\u00a0the crisis started, Iran&#8217;s President Hassan Rouhani stated, &#8220;Tehran will stand by\u00a0Qatar&#8217;s government.&#8221; By August 23, Qatar stated it would send its ambassador back to\u00a0Iran, following\u00a0a conversation between\u00a0the Qatari and Iranian foreign ministers that resulted in\u00a0discussing &#8220;means of\u00a0boosting and developing&#8221; bilateral relations, the Qatari Foreign Ministry said at\u00a0the time. Qatar and Iran share rights to\u00a0a massive offshore natural gas field.<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<p>Turkey has also supported Qatar throughout\u00a0the diplomatic dispute.<\/p>\n<p class=\"marker-quote1\">US President Donald Trump spoke with\u00a0Qatari head of\u00a0state Emir Tamim bin Hamad al-Thani on\u00a0Monday. The US leader &#8220;reiterated his support for\u00a0a strong, unified Gulf Cooperation Council that is focused on\u00a0countering regional threats,&#8221; the White House said.
