Cooperation Between Russia, UAE in International Arena Important for Global Issues – Putin
Vladimir Putin discussed trade turnover and energy cooperation with UAE President Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan at the Kremlin.
At the beginning of the meeting, the Russian leader emphasized that cooperation between Moscow and Abu Dhabi is crucial for addressing global issues on the international stage.
“Our interaction is very important not only for regional affairs, but also for global issues. We actively interact in international organizations … as well as at such large international universal platforms as the United Nations,” Putin said during negotiations with UAE President Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan.
He highlighted the importance of cooperation between the countries in cultural, humanitarian, and educational spheres.
The Russian president also said that he and his counterpart from the UAE managed to discuss all the “sensitive issues” in the two states’ cooperation during their informal meeting on Sunday.
In turn, the UAE President expressed his deep appreciation for his relationship with his Russian counterpart, both personally and professionally. He added that his country is ready to work toward further increasing trade, which has grown since 2018.
He noted that in 2018, the trade turnover between the countries, excluding the oil sector, amounted to $2.5 billion, but by 2023, this figure had exceeded $11 billion.
“These relations [between Moscow and Abu Dhabi] are developing qualitatively, especially in the field of economy and trade, energy, and in other areas,” Nahyan said at a meeting with Russian President Vladimir Putin in the Kremlin.
Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan also touched on the topic of prisoner exchanges between Moscow and Kiev, emphasizing that his country will continue to facilitate these efforts and is prepared to contribute additional efforts to resolve crisis situations.
“The UAE continues to make efforts in the framework of mediation in humanitarian issues and the exchange of prisoners of war. We recently conducted another exchange. And I assure you that we will continue to work in this direction. We are ready to make any additional efforts in this direction. Any efforts to resolve crises and conflicts in the interests of peace in the world and in the interests of both of our sides,” the president said at a meeting with Russian President Vladimir Putin in Moscow.
Additionally, the president acknowledged Russia’s role in sending an Emirati astronaut into space.
“Hazza Al-Mansouri became the first Emirati astronaut to reach the ISS, and he did so aboard a Russian spacecraft,” Al Nahyan emphasized.
